Where we go from here #EndSARS
I was exhausted and I had no idea what to say to you, so I didn’t make a blog post yesterday. There was so much happening around me and I couldn’t just continue like I was ok.
If you’re not Nigerian, you may have missed this. But for two weeks, we’ve been peacefully protesting against police brutality and seeking for good governance.
As response to our demands, we got violence and even more brutality. Military was employed and many were killed and wounded. In many states, there’s anarchy - a reaction fueled by the government’s show of violence and also by deep-rooted poverty and deprivation.
Although numb by all the violence, and reeling from all that’s happening, I’m still deeply proud of my generation. I’m proud of every Nigerian that raised their voice in defiance.
We came out peacefully to say “No More” and the violent response and impunity was a shock. So many Nigerians couldn’t believe their country would treat them with disdain and regard for their lives. I know friends who couldn’t work or study because of this realization. I know friends who cried just thinking about this.
My emotions are everywhere as well. If you’re Nigerian, I know you may not be ok. And it’s OK not to be!
With friends, I’m creating a SAFE SPACE where young Nigerians, like you and I, can vent, cry, express our emotions. A space where we listen and show empathy to the next person. A space where we regain our positivity and help each other stand up again and continue the hard work of building our community.
I’ll be there and I want you to join me too.
Its tomorrow, Sunday October 24th by 5pm WAT.

It would be out of place not to end with this question:
How are you?
I mean it, how are you doing?
